Tokin EMC was the first Japanese company to be accredited as an EMC laboratory for information technology equipment by BSMI (Taiwan's Bureau of Standards Metrology and Inspection). In May 2005, household and similar electrical appliances categories were added to accreditation. The required tests, therefore, can now be conducted in Japan without having to send product samples to Taiwan.

At the same time, Tokin EMC acts as an application agency including preparation of application forms for BSMI certification to acquire accreditation. The period from test date to acquisition is generally about 40 days.

Application agency service for telecom (facsimile, modem, etc.) and wireless equipment for Taiwan is also available. Safety regulations of Information technology equipment was enforced on July 1, 2005. Safety certification service is now available through Tokin EMC.

Documents list required for application for BSMI certification

1. Information on Taiwan importers
2. Product catalogs (both English and Japanese are acceptable)
3. List of operation frequencies
4. Block diagram
5. User manuals written in traditional Chinese (User manuals written in English are also acceptable for Class A equipment)
6. Product specification
7. Photographs of the product (including pictures of the exterior and the interior)
8. List of EMI components
9. Photos or figures indicating BSMI marking attachment location
10. Warning label (only for Class A equipment)
11. EMC test report
12. ISO certificate of manufacturing factory (required depending on application method and type of equipment)

Fees for Tests and Application Service for BSMI certification

Test fees vary with test facilities and how you request tests.
Application service fee is JPY 380,000 each (including preparation of the application form, a copy of the test report, agency service fee, and BSMI application fee.)
Preparation fee for declaration of conformity is JPY 190,000 per copy (including preparation of application forms and a copy of the test report.)
(Cost to transport the equipment to the laboratory is not included.)
